Although I've read a couple of texts about internship, I know hardly anything about this issue. Perhpas this is because internship isn't so popu;ar in Russia. Perhaps the reason is that I don't think about my future career a lot. Anyway, I'll try to write something on this topic based on my poor experience and knowledge of texts.
To my mind, going to internship is a good idea as it gives you the experience that differs a lot from the experience you gain studying at university (at bachelor or master programme). Therefore, after studying at internship, you'll find it easier to work on a real job. Internship gives a student an opportunity to think creatively and to solve real problems.
However, I don't like the fact that inters are not paid. Students do real work and they do help firms they work in. So why they are not paid? A'm also quite surprised by the fact that many students choose to go to internship rather than to go to a part-time job. If you work on a part-time job you can both earn money and gain experience of working on your profession. Moreover, a part-time employee can combine his work with studying at university (unless studying there is too hard). My brother, for instance, started working as an economist at some invest bank at 4th grade of university. He managed to earn a great deal of money and to finish his university sucessfully.
