I'd like to continue writing about music. This time I'm going to write not about the music I'm playing. Tonight I'll write about music I like listening to.
I began being interested in music when I was 8 years old; and it was my elder brother who influenced my music taste. When I was 8, I looked up to my brother (and in some degree I still do) and thought that everything he likes is cool. Thereat he was 16 years old and he liked heavy metal. So, I started listening to metal at the of eight and, suprisingly, I liked it a lot. Of course, to some extent I liked it because I wanted to like it and because I thought I should like it. But I'm sure it was the only reason, because I remember that I really enjoyed this music.
Well, 8 years has passed – and I still love metal. After all these years I've known quite a lot about it; and now I can say that metal is a very broad genre. I don't like the stereotypes that metal music is just some stupid noise made by some angry dudes. Well, it's hard to deny that music of some bands is indeed 3 minutes of noise. But not all metal bands play like this! There're lots of different types of metal: heavy metal, power metal, death metal, melodic metal, folk metal, progressive metal, etc. Metal music has a message: often it encourages people be firm and brave. It teaches us overcome difficulties and be ourself whatever it takes. Metal and other music has helped me in diffirent situations. I listen to music when I'm happy, sad, encouraged or drove to despair. Music is very important for me and I can't even imagine my life without it.
When I've just started listening to metal, it was developing rapidly: new band were being founded; new memorable famous albums were being released; I was discovering new unknown bands. It seems to me that metal is now falling into declay. Seldom do my favourite bands release albums. All their recent albums are dull and primitive. It doesn't mean that metal music doesn't develope now. It does. But I don't really like the way it developes. Some strange bands types of metal appear; but I'm not interested in them.
So now I'm listening either to metal bands I've been loving for many years (don't I know what time am I listening to them. But I'm still loving them anyway) or to some progressive metal or progressive rock music. I've begun listening to them quite recently (about 2 or 3 years ago). Now I'm listening to some instrumental music as well (the music without vocal). This genre is particulary interesting for me, because it's quite developed and complicated; so it encourages me play drums in a special maner.
Of course, metal is not the only music I listen to. Apart from metal I love rock, alternative and classical music. But it would take long to write about it. Maybe it will be the topic for some other blog.

ОтветитьУдалитьI haven't really listened to metal that much, but the early Red Hot Chili Peppers albums I listened to in the '90s were sometimes called "speed metal," and I went to high school during the heyday of grunge, which isn't too far from metal.
Well, there're lots of them; but of metal bands that are popular and that you might now, I like Metallica. Red Hot Chilli Peppers is one of my most favourite bands! I wouldn't say that they play speed metal; to my mind, they're playing funk music. However, as I mentioned, metal is not the only genre I like. I really love RHCHP and I'm listening to them quite a lot now. And what about your music preferences? What music do you like?
