Hi!
My name is Tim (or Tima as we say it in Russia). I was born in Moscow and I'm still living here. However, I can't say that I'm a fan of my city. Moscow is a huge, noisy city which isn't peaceful enough for me.
Before I went to HSE-NES I'd been studying in Pirirogovskaya school. I really love this school and I'm glad I had a chance to study there.
You might be interested why I've decided to study economics. Well, it wasn't easy for me to make this choice. The thing is that there isn't a school subject which I was keen of. Admittedly, I liked maths, but I wasn't good enough at it to study for a mathematician. Finally, I've chosen economics - not because I had a calling for it but because economics is the science which is both humanitarian and exact. I've decided to study in HSE-NES, because as I heard it's one of the coolest departments in Russia.
As for my hobbies, I'm really into music and I love playing drums. I've been playing drums for 5 years and all this time I enjoy it. I was even playing in a band for 3 years but, unfortunately, we split of, because our gitaurist (he is my brother, by the way) didn't have enough time for leading the band. Now I'm considering of drumming in one of High Scool of Economics's band, if I'll have time for it, of course.
I have to go now to do my huge homework.
See you!
Bye!
Good first post, Tim! I know what you mean about Moscow not being that peaceful, but so far I'm really enjoying living here. What city in Russia is your favorite?
ОтветитьУдалитьI hope that you are able to find a band with to play at HSE or elsewhere in the city. In the U.S., it's usually hard to find drummers, so if it's the same way here you shouldn't have too much trouble. Of course, it's usually even harder to find a place to practice than to find someone with drums! What kind of music do you like to play?
Good luck with all your homework!
Thanks for supporting me!))
УдалитьSince I'm living in Moscow all my life, I got accustomed to living here so that I can't imagine living in the other city. And by the way, living in Moscow is quite enjoyable, if you have a countyside house (we call it dacha). Going to the countryside on weekends is a widesrpread russian tradition. So what I said about Moscow wasn't about me wanting to move to the other city. Honestly, I haven't visited many russian towns, but I didin't like most of them (St. Petersburg is an exception). Maybe this is because I was in touristic placec only. So I can say that I like european and american cities more than russian ones.
As for my drumming prospects, I think that whether I will play in a band or not depands on wether I'll have enough time for it. Finding a place to practice is not a problem in Moscow, because there are lots of rehearsal rooms here. When I was playing in a band we were playing metal and rock music; however, for 5 years drumming with my teacher I've played lots of different kinds of music (funk, progressive rock, blues, etc.). For instance, now I'm playing some jazz grooves. So I'm quite flexible about it.
Yes, I've heard about going to dachas before. In Minnesota a lot of people have cabins, which I think are probably kind of similar. I hope you find time to play with a band.
ОтветитьУдалитьAre rehearsal rooms expensive to rent?
No, they aren't. For instance, a room a play in costs 800 rubles (which is about 25 dollars) per 3 hours. It isn't much especially when you devide it by 4 or 5 (the number of members of band).
