3. My old countryside house

When I was a little boy I used to spend all my summer at the countryside house which is about 60 miles from Moscow. I don't live at summers there for more than 10 years now, but this house is still special to me. Now my grandparents live there, but I visit this place a couple of times a year and every time I go there I feel very nostalgic, peacefull and happy.

The house is located on a glade, this glade on its turn is surrounded by a forest. On one side there's a road a 100 metres from the glade, on the other there's a small dirty brook which looks more like a swamp. Over the brook there's a small village; I'd say that it's a typical Russian village. There are 2 small shops (kiosks) in this village. There are about 10 houses in the glade which are separated by a meshy fence. When we were living there, or suburban settlement was quite uncivilized ad the conditions were rather tough. For instance, we didn't have any plumbing, so my mum had to get water in the neighbouring village, caring it in tanks (fortunately, we had a car). So the place which is so dear to me is a typical Russian dacha; and there's nothing special about it.

So you might be interested why is this unpleasant place so special for me. The thing is that for me only good memories are asosiated with this dacha. I used to spend my long summer days playing with my friends and enjoying life with nothing to care about. Everything I see there makes me feel nostalgic and happy. There are lots of traditions which I follow every time I arrive to this house. For intance, I climb around the house (there's a kind of step which makes it possible). When I and my siblings were younger, we loved doing this. It was quite a challenge, because the house seemed very big and tricky. I'm very glad that my grandma and grandpa are living there now, because they keep our dacha pleasant and hospitable.

  1. An interesting description of your dacha, Tim. Why haven't you visited for more than ten years? Don't you want to visit a place that was once so dear to you?

    1. Thanks! It seems that you misunderstood me. I haven't been living there for 10 years, but it doesn't mean I don't visit this lovely place. I go this dacha a couple of times a year at summer.
